SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

The ridge over Central Europe is surrounded by several troughs, but limited moisture and weak lapse rates limit the potential for widespread storm activity, let alone severe events. A few storms are expected mostly in the Iberian Peninsula and Eastern Mediterranean.

Diurnally driven storms are expected in N Spain, although CAPE is limited, with mid-level lapse rates barely reaching 6-7 K/km. The short-wave trough which is crossing N Spain will provide some extra lift to the air masses.

In SE Aegean Sea and S Turkey, another cut-off low is moving slowly east and several PV maxima will provide lift to unstable air masses. In addition, a southern surface flow in S Turkey brings moist air masses onshore, where locally steep lapse rates over mountainous areas may lead to a few strong showers or small hail events.
