SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

A deep trough is forecast to cover much of central and northwestern Europe. Along its base, a short-wave trough will move from Romania towards Ukraine and another short-wave, amplifying, will cross Germany and continue moving southeastward towards the northern Aegean Sea. In the polar maritime airmass, characterised by steep lapse rates exceeding 7 K/km, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are forecast in this airmass with the highest coverage over northwestern Turkey during Wednesday night. Severe weather threat will be low given limited CAPE, but marginally severe gusts may accompany low-topped convection over parts of Germany as 850 hPa flow approaches 25 m/s.
