SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

A large ridge, stretching from Iberia through Central Europe into western Russia will secure stable weather conditions over much of the continent. More unstable weather pattern is forecast both to the north and to the south. Over the Norwegian Sea, models simulate deep moist convection in the environment of very steep lapse rates and strong lower tropospheric flow. Isolated lightning will be possible, but no threat level is issued, as it is not expected that convection would contribute to the strength of wind gusts.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are also forecast over the parts of the Mediterranean, linked to the cut-off low moving from Sardegna towards Tunisia and Algeria and with a deep trough covering Turkey, Cyprus and parts of the Middle East. Convection should remain non-severe due to the marginal CAPE and lack of strong deep-layer shear.
