Valid: Mon 17 Dec 2018 06:00 to Tue 18 Dec 2018 06:00 UTC
Issued: Mon 17 Dec 2018 02:55
Forecaster: VAN DER VELDE

A level 1 was issued across southern Greece and Crete mainly for severe convective gusts and tornado chances.

SYNOPSIS

The overall pattern is divided into strong high pressure over Russia, low pressure over the northern Atlantic and a mix of both in between. A developing low near Italy moves rapidly southeastward, becoming rather intense by 12Z with steep pressure gradients on north and west sides. A convective disturbance over the eastern Mediterranean (Cyprus) should gradually deactivate.

DISCUSSION

...Greece...

Intensifying cold front and overlying jet streak could activate a cluster or MCS with enhanced chances of organized gusts, which may on isolated scale reach 25 m/s. Locally, DLS over 20 m/s and LLS over 10 m/s support tornadogenesis.

Waterspouts, marginally large hail and flash floods may occur at isolated scale over a larger region.
