An extremely dangerous flash flood situation has quickly evolved over the easternmost Alps, where the convergence zone mentioned in the original outlook is anchored over the mountains and further intensified by upslope circulations. Radar and satellite data indicate stationary and constantly backbuilding multicellular storms, which are still inflow-dominated and can feed on plentiful moisture to the south (2m dewpoints around 18°C, likely yielding CAPE on the order of 1500 J/kg). In addition to the main risk of flooding, 2-3 cm sized hail may occur locally with the strongest updrafts.
The situation is expected to persist until 12 or 13 UTC. Beyond this time, storms will likely propagate E- to S-ward, still bearing an enhanced flooding hazard.
