SYNOPSIS

A pronounced long-wave trough remains in place from Greenland to SW Europe and further amplifies into Algeria. Polar air is advected far southward behind this trough and wraps around its axis (with scattered, disorganized afternoon thundery showers). Ahead of it, a moderate southerly flow with numerous embedded short-wave troughs covers large parts of Europe. The dominant one will move from the Alpine region (Fri 06 UTC) towards Poland (Sat 06 UTC), accompanied by a surface cold front that swings in from the SW. These features will support another active thunderstorm day.
Quiescent conditions prevail further downstream with a long-wave ridge over E Europe and a blocking surface high centered over Finland.
