SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

Most of Europe will be located under rather low geopotential heights, with polar jet-stream running across the southern Mediterranean during the day. A short-wave trough travelling from the Atlantic towards southeast is expected to amplify towards Northern Africa, yielding southwesterly lower tropospheric flow along with WAA over the Western and Central Mediterranean. Continental Europe will be dominated by dry and stable airmass originating from extensive high pressure system over Russia, with some parts of Western Europe and Mediterranean experiencing marginal overlap of moister airmass and modest mid-level lapse rates. Only small values of CAPE are expected and furthermore, with no significant overlap of CAPE and deep layer wind shear. More notable overlap is forecast for coastline of SW Turkey during the morning hours but as the axis of the trough will have already passed over the region by 09 UTC, DMC coverage should be decreasing quite rapidly.
