SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

As a pronounced ridge builds towards Western Europe during the day, mid and upper tropospheric trough will slowly shift toward east with its southern flank experiencing a cut-off process over the Western Mediterranean. A jet-streak is simulated on the western flank of the cut-off low. Closer to the surface, a large high pressure system will dominate the conditions over Southwestern Europe with low pressure over Northern Europe. A shallow low over the Western Mediterranean will be linked to the cut-off low. This region will be also the only one to experience isolated to scattered DMC with slight chance of lightning occurrence. Meager overlap of low-level moisture / steep mid-level lapse rates will likely prevent any significant instability build-up but favourable forcing should compensate partly for this.
