A level 1 was issued for Corsica and Sardinia mainly for excessive convective precipitation.

SYNOPSIS / DISCUSSION

Cold air at upper levels overspreads the western and central Mediterranean, leading to a few hundred J/kg CAPE. As deep layer shear is rather weak, organised severe thunderstorms are unlikely. Nevertheless, a slow storm motion and continuous moisture advection may support a few heavy rainfall events in the Mediterranean region. A small level 1 area was introduced for Corsica and Sardinia, which is the area with the highest probability of excessive convective precipitation.
