SYNOPSIS / DISCUSSION

High pressure over Scandinavia leads to CAA over the eastern parts of Central Europe. A low pressure system south of Iceland should affect the British Isles on Sunday. Near the upper cold core of the low, some hundred J/kg CAPE should be created and scattered thunderstorms are likely to occur. As vertical shear is rather weak, severe weather is unlikely.

This trough will extend southwards and should reach Iberia and the western Mediterranean during the night hours. Locally, LL winds may reach up to 20 m/s over the SW Mediterranean and a few severe gusts cannot be discounted. Strong Mistral winds over the Gulf of Lion may hinder convective initiation in the northern part of the region with some CAPE.
