A level 1 was issued for parts of the Ionian Sea, Albania and Greece mainly for large hail, severe wind gusts and heavy rainfall.

SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

The large branch of the disturbed polar vortex is situated over most parts of Europe, assisting in the infiltration of a cold and dry continental air mass. Only the Ionian Sea has some better moisture access from the south with modest MLCAPE and strong DLS. Organized storms with mainly large hail and severe wind gusts are forecast. Heavy rain spreads well inland and is the main reason for expanding the level far inland. Otherwise less organized convection occurs over most parts of the central Mediterranean with instability being the limiting ingredient for organized DMC.
