SYNOPSIS

Thursday at 0600 UTC, a mid-/upper-level low is in the progress of cutting off over the northwestern Mediterreanean Sea. A shortwave trough on it s western flank is working its way southward across Spain. A extensive unstable air-mass is located around a surface low near Corsica.

DISCUSSION

Several clusters of thunderstorms are expected to rotate around the Corsican surface low. In general winds are weak to moderate in much of the troposphere and so is the wind shear. As a result the chances of severe weather are limited. Still, weak winds, high low-level lapse rates and moist low levels suggest that a few waterspouts may form.
