SYNOPSIS

Upper blocking pattern persists across Europe ... with a deep upper ridge over western Europe and a weak but extensive upper low over SE Europe. The SFC chart is dominated by a large SFC high essentially covering all of Europe. The E Mediterranean is affected by a weak cyclonic low-level circulation associated with the SE European upper low.

DISCUSSION

... south-central Mediterranean ... south Aegean Sea ...

Only chance for deep convection seems to exist over the S Aegean and the E Mediterranean. Over these regions, neither the shear profiles nor the LL thermodynamic fields suggest that an appreciable threat for severe convective weather exists. Depth of convection should decrease towards the west, but isolated lightning out of comparatively shallow convection may occur as fast west as Sicily.
