SYNOPSIS

Monday at 06:00 UTC... a strong westerly mid/upper-level jet is expected to have its exit region over northern France before moving eastward. A maturing surface low is expected to be located over northern England. The low is expected to travel eastward reaching southern Sweden on Tuesday. Over southern Europe, the flow is rather weak and the air-mass relatively stable.

DISCUSSION

England, southern North Sea, Benelux

Rather strong low-level shear is expected in the air behind the cold front especially in the vicinity of a low-level (sting-) jet that has velocities of 30-35 m/s in its core. With dew points dropping to near 4 C however, relatively little instability is expected in this environment. Still, a few showers or thunderstorms are expected. Some wind gusts in excess of 25 m/s are possible with the storms, especially when small lines manage to form. A level 1 is therefore marginally warranted.
