SYNOPSIS

Seems to be a quite convective period. High pressure and stable air mass dominates Europe, while upper cut-off low over northern Africa and associated trough axis supports convective development over western Mediterranean. As vertical wind shear is weak, organized thunderstorms are not expected. Over western Europe, strong south-westerly flow advects warm maritime air mass north-eastward. This air mass is stable or nearly moist-adiabatic, and models do not expect convection in the warm air advection regime. Best chances seem to exist along the Scandinavian coasts, where orographic lift may lead to some deep convection, and isolated thunder may occur.
