SYNOPSIS

A subtropic high ridges into western and north-western Europe, and a strong capping inversion is present over large areas of western and central Europe. A short-wave trough travels across northern Scandinavia. Within low geopotential across eastern Europe, a vortex moves south across Romania and Bulgaria into the Aegean. At lower levels, moist air masses are present across the east Mediterranean, where they overlap with steep low-level lapse rates.

DISCUSSION

Southern Turkey, Cyprus, north-western Syria

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the east Mediterranean. Vertical wind shear is weak, and storms are not expected to organize. Skinny CAPE and weak shear support a slight threat of excessive rain. Additionally, waterspouts may occur near the coasts.
