SYNOPSIS

Southwestern Europe is still dominated by a steady high pressure system. One low pressure system moves from Faeroer Islands to southern Sweden. It is accompanied by strong pressure gradients with high wind speeds across the North Sea. The other low is active over the Black Sea, Aegean Sea and eastern Mediterranean Sea region, with cold low to mid level air over warmer sea surface creating modest CAPE and cold enough EL for electrification. Strong near-surface lapse rates (10 deg over 500 m) helps formation of waterspouts under convective clouds, with a steering low/mid-level flow weak and strongly vortical.
