DISCUSSION

Very stable conditions over continental Europe will suppress any convective phenomena the next (at least) 30 hours. High geopotentials and mild lapse rates are found in most parts of the continent and only in SE parts of the Iberian Peninsula a cut-off low creates a favorable environment for DMC. Flashing storms are expected there throughout the period of this forecast but they will mostly remain offshore. Given the steep lapse rates and strong DLS, storms may produce some large hail but mostly more to the SE of our domain. Moreover, during the night of Tuesday, an approaching trough from NE Atlantic will bring a polar airmass towards the UK and Ireland, pushing the warmer and moist air masses more to the SE. Some low-topped and short-living thunderstorms are also expected.
