SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

A pronounced long-wave trough amplifies from the North Sea towards central Europe and the central Mediterranean region. The primary surface cyclone is placed over central Norway, while a secondary one forms in the wake of the Alps over N Italy. Maritime polar air spreads southward in their wake.

Steep lapse rates are present in the range of the long-wave trough. A few lightning discharges are possible with cold-air convection over the North Sea, as well as in the second half of the forecast period along the cold front while it moves across the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic Sea.
Marginal CAPE and weak vertical wind shear make severe weather unlikely.
