SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

A strong high pressure area is situated over SW and CNTRL Europe. A deep cold-core vortex remains in place over SE Europe. Between both vortices, a dry and cold continental air mass spreads south over the CNTRL/E Mediterranean. As BL modification occurs over the warm sea, a low-end chance for short-lived thunderstorms arises over the Aegean Sea, the Ionian Sea and further south.
A sporadic/short-lived thunderstorm event is also not ruled out west of Norway with steep mid-level lapse rates and scarce BL moisture offering 100-300 J/kg SBCAPE. This risk is too marginal for a lightning area.
