SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

An extensive surface high pressure area, which is centered over the W/CNTRL Mediterranean and a strong ridge over SW-Europe keep the moisture over the N-Atlantic. Enhanced moisture is forecast to spread from the UK to the North Sea. Meager lapse rates aloft preclude thunderstorm development, despite an area between the Shetland Islands and W-Norway, where a few short-lived storms could evolve beyond 00 UTC.
Another area with slim chances for lightning activity exists over the far S-Mediterranean, where mid-levels remain cool enough and adequate BL moisture exists for up to 500 J/kg SBCAPE. Weak shear precludes organized convection.
