SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

An active weather pattern continues over much of NW Europe with a deep cyclonic vortex centered over the Atlantic. Lack of steep lapse rates and low-level moisture overlap will significantly reduce chances for electrified DMC across much of the region. One exception may be parts of British Isles along the advancing cold front, where some isolated lightning strikes may occur, as the left exit region of jet-streak provides strong upward motion over the area. Another area with isolated lightning will be the extreme SW Mediterranean where a cut-off low with cold mid-tropospheric temperatures contributes to steep lapse rates. In both areas, severe weather probability is too low to warrant a Lvl 1, although a very small chance of wind gust / tornado occurrence with thunderstorms over the British Isles will be present due to the strong LLS.
