SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

A deep trough is situated over Europe. BL air mass features low moisture values, but very steep mid-level lapse rates atop cause some meager offshore CAPE. Thunderstorms don't pose any severe risk but could bring gusty winds and graupel.
We also issued a low prob. lightning area for offshore areas far north (against climatology) due to an intense vertical temperature gradient (e.g. North Sea with 7-9 °C SSTs beneath -36 °C at 500 hPa). 500 hPa temperature decreases further north to less than -40 °C.
