SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

A sharp and dynamic/progressive trough over Scandinavia shifts east as a large-scale ridge builds in from the west. An extensive cut-off low over the central/eastern Mediterranean steers a small-scale cold-core low from Italy to NE-Algeria. Weak shear and moderate MLCAPE support widespread thunderstorm development with sleet, gusty winds and heavy rain. Offshore CAPE and weak BL winds with various mesoscale convergence zones probably result in a few waterspout events. Missing foci for clustering reports preclude a level 1.

No long-lived/deep convection is forecast from Spain to W-Russia due to high pressure/mid-layer ridge/rather dry air.
