SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

A deep cyclonic vortex will reside over the eastern Mediterranean with a northerly flow all the way from N Russia advecting arctic airmass over the area. Towards west, weakly high geopotentials dominate western half of Europe, disturbed by several short-wave troughs. One of them, affecting NW Iberia during the noon hours and subsequently weakening, could aid in the DMC formation, especially around the coastal areas. Here, a tongue of enhanced low-level moisture should stretch from the Atlantic, so that marginal CAPE might form thanks to the upward motion on the forward flank of the short-wave. Nevertheless, this activity should be weak and mostly isolated in nature. Elsewhere, conditions will be too hostile, especially regarding dry low-levels, the only exception being southern part of the Black Sea, where low-topped showers might be accompanied by a lightning or two.
