SYNOPSIS / DISCUSSION

A large upper trough overspreads Scandinavia and central Europe and reaches the Tyrrhenian Sea and Sicily with its southern tip. At its southern tip, a shortwave will develop and cross the central Mediterranean and Ionian / Aegean Sea. Ahead of this shortwave, moderately warm and unstable air is advected towards Greece and Turkey, resulting in some hundred J/kg CAPE. As deep layer shear in order of 20 m/s is anticipated, isolated large hail and marginally severe wind gusts are not ruled out with the strongest (mostly multicellular) storms. A similar marginal threat of isolated large hail and isolated severe wind gusts will also persist for eastern Romania, eastern Bulgaria and the W Black Sea region.
