SYNOPSIS / DISCUSSION

A low pressure system over Iceland shifts eastwards and the southern part of the upper trough affects the British Isles and the North Sea region on Sunday. In the wake of the cold front, some isolated thunder is possible. The trough is forecast to dig further southwards, leading to a cut-off low over Benelux on Monday.

A weakening upper low is centered over the central Mediterranean and moves slowly eastwards. Ahead of this low, some hundred J/kg of CAPE will be created in a relatively warm and moist airmass. Both GFS and HIRLAM suggest scattered thunderstorms in the Tyrrhenian Sea region and over the S Adriatic / Ionian Sea. For this region, a high-probability thunderstorm area was issued. Some isolated thunder is possible in most portions of the Mediterranean. Apart from an isolated waterspout, severe weather is not expected.
