... SYNOPSIS ...

A rather intense zonal upper jet stream is curving anticyclonically across the northern into the eastern parts of Europe, with a rather weak but extensive ridge covering central and southern Europe.

... DISCUSSION ...

... SW coast of Norway ...

Rather shallow polar-air convection should occur over the Norwegian Sea. This activity may be most intense where supported by upslope flow along the west coast of Norway. Expect an isolated lightning discharge or two and a few convective wind gusts that may augment the brisk gradient flow.

... S Ionian Sea ...

Weak and comparatively shallow instability should exist over the southern Ionian Sea near a weak upper low. Expect most cells to be only weakly electrified. Mostly calm environment and somewhat enhanced LL buoyancy suggest that a waterspout or two cannot be ruled out.
