SYNOPSIS / DISCUSSION

An upper trough over Iberia will lead to unsettled conditions over the western Mediterranean and Portugal. Some hundred J/kg CAPE are expected over the central and northern Mediterranean in an environment with 10 - 15 m/s deep layer shear, locally up to 20 m/s. Rather weak winds in the lowest 3 km should reduce the potential of organized severe convection but an isolated marginally severe hail event is not ruled out.
