SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

The dominant feature in the synoptic situation at 500 hPa over Europe will be a ridge, stretching from the Atlantic to Southwestern Europe, mainly Iberian penninsula. To the north, strong prevailing zonal flow with several embedded vort. maxima is predicted. The most prominent impulse, in the form of a sharp short-wave trough will travel across Southern Scandinavia and will continue towards Eastern Europe. Another short-wave trough will follow the eastern fringe of the ridge, near the coastline of Tunisia, towards south. A much broader, shallow pool of low geopotentials will the rest of Europe.

Rather stable conditions are predicted over most of Europe due to the presence of dry, cool airmass with the exceptions being Southern and Southeastern Mediterranean, where, thanks to the cooler temperatures at mid-levels, low-end instability built-up is forecast. With CAPE values being mostly marginal, forcing, as well as wind shear insignificant, no severe threat is forecast. Scattered showers or weak thunderstorms might occur, however, mostly near the Southwestern coasts of Turkey.
