A level 1 was issued for the east coast of the Ionian Sea and the SE Adriatic Sea mainly for heavy rainfall, large hail, strong wind gusts and an isolated tornado event.

SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION

Eastward shifting upper trough affects most parts of Europe. A warm and moist air mass covers the east-central/east Mediterranean ahead of the approaching trough, so scattered showers/thunderstorms are forecast over a broad area. The wind shear improves throughout the day over the highlighted region, so organized thunderstorms occur. It remains still unclear how far inland the tongue with modest MUCAPE expands, but at least a low probability thunderstorm area was drawn well inland. Otherwise, thunderstorm maxima occur along the coastal areas. Heavy rain, large hail and strong wind gusts will be the primary hazard next to an isolated tornado event along the coasts. Bulgaria may see a few strong thunderstorms during the night, dependant on the degree of instability build-up.

Otherwise no severe thunderstorms are forecast.
