SYNOPSIS

East of high over Atlantic, amplified upper trough is present over Europe and Mediterranean. Cold air mass has spread into most of the forecast region. This air mass has become unstable over the warm wter surface of the Bay of Biscay, and Mediterranean Sea. Showers and thunderstorms have already developed and are expected to go on during the day. Given rather unvafoable veering winds, organized thunderstorms seem to be not likely. Best potential for a shallow mesocyclone will exist near the coasts, where locally low-level SRH may be higher, posing a marginal tornado threat. Given steep low-level lapse rates, isolated water spouts are not ruled out especially near the trough center, where low-level wind shear is weak.
